Sikh National Center has been organized as a regional national/religious and social/cultural center for the Sikh Community of greater Houston. It has acquired a twenty acre site of prime land at 7500 N. Sam Houston Parkway West (Beltway 8), located between Gessner & Fairbanks N. Houston Road. This Corporation was organized and registered recently in the state of Texas as a non profit entity under the provisions of US IRC Section 501© (3). It currently owns 20 acres of prime land on Beltway 8 next to Heron Lakes Golf course. On April 6th, 2003, many Sikh leaders assembled for the religious ceremony and prayed for the success of this major project which is likely to become a landmark of Houston. On April 19th, 2003, Religious singer (Kirtania) Bhai Jagjit Singh and his companions recited religious songs (Kirtan). Dr. Rajinder Singh priest from Sikh Center prayed before Shri Guru Granth Sahib to thank and for blessings to do the opening ceremony of Nishan Sahib (Religious Flag of Sikhs). Sikh youth showed their talent in Marshal Art (Gatka) which was very much appreciated by the Sikh Sangat (Sikh Community). Young kids’ races were managed by Mandeep Sekhon. Lot of kids participated. Sangat raised around 1.5 million dollars pledges for five years and $ 89,000 were raised cash which happened first time in Sikh Center’s history
